The 32nd anniversary of an aircraft crash that killed several of Reba McEntire’s friends falls this week.
The singer paid tribute to her eight bandmates and crew colleagues who died on March 16, 1991, via social media. Their demise occurred on March 16.
There were eight of the most outstanding musicians working today. The fact that they were my pals, though, was what mattered most, she stated on Instagram.
The leading edge of one of the wings of a plane traveling from San Diego to Indiana crashed with a boulder on the side of Otay Mountain, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing.
McEntire, her husband Narvel, and her stylist stayed at the hotel throughout the entire performance because of the singer’s illness.
Along with tour manager Jim Hammon, the fatalities included Kirk Cappello, Michael Thomas, Tony Saputo, Paula Kaye Evans, Terry Jackson, Joey Cigainero, and Chris Austin.
She continues, “Their love for music and the stage gives all of us the strength to go on.” This presentation includes a video of one of the group’s performances.
McEntire brings up the band in conversation each year. She spoke with Oprah Winfrey about the incident and its immediate aftermath in 2012.
She told us, “When we were informed, Narvel went and spoke with our pilot, and he told us what had occurred. “Narvel went and met with our pilot as soon as we were informed.”
It was between two and three in the morning that Narvel returned to the hotel room where I was staying and informed me that one of the planes had crashed. I immediately inquired as to whether or not the passengers were okay. He replied, “I don’t think so,” in response. ‘But you’re not sure,’ I retorted.’I don’t think so,’ he said in response.
