Laverne & Shirley’ star Cindy Williams passed away at the age of 75

Laverne and Shirley’s Shirley Feeney was portrayed by Cindy Williams, who died at the age of 75.

After a “short illness,” Williams passed away on Wednesday in Los Angeles, according to a statement released by her children, Zak and Emily Hudson.

Per AP, the statement reads: “The passing of our kind, funny mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us incomparable pain that could never adequately be expressed. We have cherished the chance to get to know and love her. She was extraordinary, lovely, giving, and well-liked by everyone. Additionally, she had a bright spirit and a wonderful sense of humour.

She then gained notoriety when she was cast in two of the most well-known Hollywood films of the 1970s. In George Lucas’ American Graffiti, she played Laurie Henderson, Ron Howard’s high school girlfriend, and she also had a role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation.

But after another TV appearance, she would land her most well-known role. In a Happy Days episode, Williams and actress Penny Marshall took on the parts of Richie and Fonzie’s dates, Laverne and Shirley.

Laverne, a spin-off series created by producer Garry Marshall, In its third season, the show was named the most watched in the nation after eight seasons and a high level of popularity.

One of television’s most recognisable openings (“One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight! The series, which aired from the late 1950s until the middle of the 1960s, featured the exploits of Laverne DeFazio (Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Williams), best friends and roommates.

The two working-class people start as bottle cappers at Milwaukee’s Shotz Brewery. Williams’ Shirley was the kinder, more conventional, and more traditional of the two than her brassier, more corrosive best friend.

The show’s success was mainly due to the chemistry between Williams and Marshall and the fact that “blue-collar” women were presented in a TV series for the first time.

But Williams did leave Laverne eventually. Following an amicable resolution with Paramount, she left the series.

They had a hard time understanding that I needed time off to have a baby, Cindy told ET. The day before my due date, they made me work. In the end, I could not participate in that season of the program.

During the show’s final seasons, Williams and Marshall also got into a fight, but they later patched things up.

After taking a few years off from acting to raise her child, she returned to television in the sitcoms Normal Life and Getting By.

She was well-known for appearing in numerous regional plays and musicals, as well as The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway, and she was also famous for her stage performances.

Besides working with Penny Marshall once more in an episode of the Nickelodeon sitcom Sam.

Marshall, who was 75, died in 2018. According to Williams, she has “a really special talent. She told People, “Can’t express how much I’ll miss her, but that was fun.

Actor David Lander, who starred in the Squiggy series, passed away in 2020 at 73. Garry Marshall, the show’s creator and Penny’s brother, passed away in 2016 at 81. Only the lead actor, Michael McKean, remains alive and employed today.
