Firstly, the size of Walmart’s rotisserie chicken is notably smaller compared to other options available in the market. For a price of $4.98, you receive less than two pounds of chicken, whereas competitors like Sam’s Club and Costco offer larger birds for the same or slightly higher price. While some customers comment saying that they’ve never had an issue, others beg to differ. For one 3-ounce serving, you get a surprising 690 milligrams of sodium. Competitors such as Sam’s Club and Costco offer more flavor for 550 milligrams and 460 milligrams of sodium, respectively. Other places, such as Whole Foods and Publix, are half that of Costco sodium levels, however, you pay much more for your chicken.

Rotisserie chicken, in general, can be a reasonably healthy choice, as it provides a good source of lean protein (though leanness can vary based on where you buy it). It is quick to prepare and makes a great choice for busy, on-the-go families. Rotisserie chickens can also be a healthy choice because they are low in fat and calories, especially if you remove the skin before eating. They are a good source of lean protein, which is important for building and repairing tissues in your body. What to Watch Out for When Buying Rotisserie Chicken

Apart from the size and taste concerns, there are other factors to be wary of when purchasing a rotisserie chicken. As already discussed, salt content per serving is a big problem. This is especially if you or your family members have high blood pressure or other salt-related health conditions. It is always important to read your ingredient labels thoroughly. This doesn’t just mean the nutrition label, but also the part that lists the ingredients that go into the product. Watch out for ingredients that you don’t know or trust. Finally, if you have the funds, it is best to source out chickens that come from ethical farming practices rather than large factory farms. These are both more environmentally sustainable and better for your health. These birds are also less likely to be infected by dangerous bacteria, such as salmonella.
